Feast of Stories: Cultural Heritage and Roots

This project explores the cultural heritage of the children in the school and their families. Children working on this project will become story ambassadors and will collect stories from around the school. This theme is largely based on personal experience and will develop as the project goes on depending on the nature of the experiences of the school. To compliment & help facilitate the recording of the sound piece we would like to make a 'Story tree' during the sessions. There will be a large fabric tree which will be attached to the class room wall. Each child will have their own branch dedictated to their investigation into the story of their own heritage, though story sharing, song, discussing food, families, friends and places. The children will attach different drawings, words, pictures objects and words over the sessions to their branch of the tree to make up a visual representation the story of their heritage, where they are now and what is important to them. Towards the end of the sessions we will have an 'open mic' invite students, teachers and family and friends off the children to come and share their own stories in which ever way they are happiest (could be anything from a story, song or favourite recipe to talking about and object or photograph). The children will tell their own story in the final session using their branch as reference.
